Cox Irish Woven Blanket | Mac an Choiligh Family Crest Throw
In most of Ireland Cox is English; in Roscommon it crows — Mac an Choiligh, son of the rooster. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Cox family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Cox Name in Ireland
The English name — from Cocks, a medieval nickname — arrived with settlement and spread through the towns. In Connacht, though, Cox is Gaelic: Mac an Choiligh, son of the rooster, a Roscommon name also anglicized Quilly and folded into Cox by clerks reaching for something familiar. Sir Richard Cox of Cork, Lord Chancellor of Ireland in the reign of Queen Anne, gave the English line its most prominent Irish bearer.
How the Cox Blanket Is Made
Two traditions, one construction: crest and tartan woven together in 100% premium cotton yarn, finished with traditional fringed edges.
