O'Connell Irish Woven Blanket | Kerry Liberator Family Crest Throw
The main street of the capital carries this name. This heirloom blanket weaves the O'Connell family crest into the Irish National Tartan.
The O'Connell Name in Ireland
The Irish is Ó Conaill, and the family's home is Kerry, where they kept Ballycarbery Castle and, in later centuries, the house at Derrynane on the Iveragh coast. Daniel O'Connell, the Liberator, was born at Carhen near Cahersiveen in 1775 and raised at Derrynane by his uncle Maurice “Hunting-cap” O'Connell; he won Catholic Emancipation in 1829 by organizing a nation rather than arming it — elected for Clare while Catholics were still barred from Parliament, and remembered now in the name of Dublin's principal street. Connell, without the prefix, is the same name as many records wrote it.
How the O'Connell Blanket Is Made
Woven through, never printed on. Crest and tartan are formed in 100% premium cotton yarn as part of the cloth itself, finished with traditional fringed edges.
